Human Rights Day 2023
Human Rights Day 2023: Upholding the Right to Health in Clinical Research
December 10th marks Human Rights Day and also the 75th Anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
This year’s theme is Freedom, Equality and
Justice for All. At Accellcare, we recognize that the right to health is an
integral part of human rights. Today, we reflect on our role in upholding these
rights through ethical research and equitable practices.
Understanding the Right to Health
The right to health entails access to healthcare services, facilities, and goods without discrimination, particularly for the most vulnerable. Linked to broader human rights, it encompasses social determinants like housing, hygiene, education, and employment.
Our Commitment in Action
In clinical research, upholding human rights means ensuring informed consent, privacy protection, and striving for equality. On Human Rights Day, we reflect on our measures:
- Diversity in Clinical Trials: Committed to diverse participant recruitment for research benefiting all communities.
- Informed Consent Processes: Equipping every participant with comprehensive information, respecting autonomy.
- Data Privacy and Security: Upholding the highest standards of confidentiality, a human rights obligation.
Bridging Gaps in Healthcare
Human Rights Day urges addressing healthcare inequalities. Our initiatives focus on:
- Developing accessible and affordable treatments.
- Ensuring healthcare solutions suit diverse populations.
- Partnering with communities to incorporate their health needs and perspectives.
Human Rights Day is an opportunity for all health sector stakeholders to unite for human dignity. We call upon partners, researchers, healthcare professionals, and the public to join in advancing scientific knowledge while respecting individual rights.
Accellacare is committed to continuous learning and improvement in human rights within clinical research. As we celebrate Human Rights Day, we recognize progress made and acknowledge the ongoing work. Every day is a chance to uphold fairness, equality, and respect, making the right to health a reality for all.
