How to Improve Your Heart Health

Taking these steps to improve your heart health will not only benefit your heart but benefit your over-all health. 

  • Eat Healthy - Foods like dark greens, whole grains, berries, avocados, fatty fish/fish oil, beans and walnuts can nourish your heart. A healthy diet can also help manage stress. 
  • Regular Exercise - 2.5 hours a week of aerobic exercise (walking, running, anything that get you moving) will help strengthen your heart, regardless of your weight or BMI. Staying active will benefit your over-all health. 
  • Maintain Healthy Weight - Keeping your weight at a healthy BMI can alleviate extra strain on the heart. 
  • Control Blood Pressure & Cholesterol - Taking steps to get active and eat well will improve cholesterol and blood pressure. Medication can be used as your doctor recommends. 
  • Manage Stress -  Practices like yoga, meditation, and acupuncture can help your body cope with stress. It's also important to recognize and avoid your triggers. 
  • Stop Smoking - Stopping this habit will improve your over all health by helping you control your cholesterol and improve lung function allowing for better aerobic exercise.
