Heart Awareness Month 2024

Heart Month: Listen to your heart and speak up for your health.

According to the World Health Organization, Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. More than four out of five CVD deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes, and one third of these deaths occur prematurely in people under 70 years of age. During American Heart Month, learn how you can advocate for cardiovascular health, help fundraise for breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment and support our patients and families.

Symptoms

Frequently, the underlying disease affecting blood vessels manifests without apparent symptoms. The initial indicators of this condition might be a heart attack or stroke. These are signs of a heart attack encompass:

  • Pain or discomfort centralized in the chest; and/or
  • Pain or discomfort in the arms, left shoulder, elbows, jaw, or back.

If you experience numbness of the face, confusion, difficulty of speech, walking or fainting/unconsciousness you should seek medical care immediately.

Examples on how to improve your health and lifestyle:

  • Get to know your heart: Learning what a healthy cholesterol, blood pressure, weight and blood sugar level is, can significantly improve your health and your daily choices.
  • Self-Care: Adopting regular physical activity, opting for nutritious foods, ensuring adequate sleep, abstaining from smoking, and employing healthy stress management techniques contribute to preventing heart disease. By prioritizing our heart well-being, we also serve as role models for those in our surroundings to follow suit.

At Accellacare we believe that recognizing individuals with the highest risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and ensuring they receive suitable treatment can effectively prevent premature deaths.
